About the Event

  • Have you ever witnessed discrimination, and not been sure what to say?
  • Have you ever been concerned that you might use the ‘wrong’ language when speaking about/with a diverse group of people?
  • Would you like to know how to better communicate with staff/students that may have faced discrimination?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this session is for you. The 5 simple steps will rapidly equip you for effective ‘allyship’. The session will be a safe and supportive space involving discussions, practical role-plays, and an opportunity for you to ask any of those questions you’ve always wanted to ask.  You will leave feeling better prepared for future challenges that come your way!

Kyley is an Associate Lecturer in Creative & Digital Technologies at the University of Chichester; predominately working with B.A. (Hons) Acting for Film students. He is passionate about making inclusive educational spaces, that are accessible to all, and celebrating the rich diversity of its participants. He is also a RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) trained actor with almost 20 years of experience working as a creative artist. He has worked as an educator since 2009; presently splitting his time between lecturing in HE, and creating pathways into higher education for those on the fringes of society. He does the latter, predominately, through the managing of social inclusion programs for The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain which aim to nurture talented young people that have faced barriers accessing education thus far; the course supports learners with acquiring the hard skills, soft skills and academic qualifications required for entry into HE and a professional career.

***As we want as many people as possible to benefit from this workshop, our September Scholarship Allotment will be going to free/reduced rate tickets. If the £20 ticket costs create a financial barrier that means you would not be able to participate then please fill in the google form below and then email info@theactorscommunity.org to bring attention to your application. We will be accepting as many applications as we can, as we believe this workshop is of incredible value.
